Pastor's Corner

Dear Friends,
I wanted to update you this week and let you know that your officers and leaders are continuing to seek the Lord's will and direction for a future location for us to meet and to worship on Sundays. While First Cumberland has been gracious to host Cornerstone these past 12 months, we find ourselves at a crossroads. The question we are wrestling with is, "What is the next logical progression in the growth of Cornerstone?"
Your officers have wrestled with this question these past few months and we sense that it would be wise for us to pursue a location where we could have more flexibility with our worship and Sunday school times on Sunday mornings. This seems to be a prudent step in maturing as a church body - that we move into a phase of ministry where we have the ability and freedom on Sundays that fit our needs as a growing body.
In truth, we would like to meet for worship at a later hour on Sunday mornings. The Lord has blessed Cornerstone with many families with young children and many seniors who love to worship with us. However, I know from experience with my young family that an 8:30am worship service is difficult.  In the current arrangement we have with First Cumberland, the possibility of worshiping at a different hour on Sunday morning is not possible at this time. In addition, many of you had expressed interest and desire to pursue other avenues of ministry. Some of these possibilities include weekday Bible studies, Vacation Bible School for children, and other activities in which a church facility that would be more conducive to these items would be necessary.
Please join us in praying daily for the Lord to provide and to show us where He would have us to be. Pray that we continue to be a "A community of believers ... devoted to the Apostles' teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." On May 25th, we will be studying a very appropriate psalm that can direct our prayers in this matter.
"Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." (Psalm 127:1 ESV)
In addition to joining in prayer for this, please consider ways that you can become involved in ministry at Cornerstone.  Scripture tells us (1 Corinthians 12:12-31, Ephesians 4:11-16) that the church is a body and that each member has its function.  Each of us is gifted by the LORD for ministry and for service to the body of Christ.  The church is built up and served by all its members using their gifts.  Your gift might be anything from teaching to hospitality, mercy, counseling or others.  Please pray about ways that you can exercise your gifts at Cornerstone. If the LORD is leading you to serve in a particular area, please let one of the officers know how we can help.
Your friend,
